Tips for parents to prepare your child for a testing session:
1. Mark testing days on your calendar to help remind you and your child when their testing will take place.
2. Make sure your child gets at least their normal amount of sleep the night before the test.
3. The student should eat a nutritious and filling breakfast.
4. Make sure the student is on time on the day of testing.
5. If you child is sick, please contact the school immediately to inform them.
And remember, try not to put too much pressure on the student. Reinforce that as long as they work hard in preparation and try their absolute best you will be proud of them.

Sybil Bell, Civics instructor, has arranged for speakers to come each Thursday in February to celebration Black History Month.
On February 6th, Andre Barnes, art teacher, and Martin Steward, technology teacher, spoke to our students and encouraged them to bring out their talents, stay focused and avoid distractions as they move through life. There was an art show of original paintings of historical and well-known famous people like Lebron James.
On February 13th, Dr. Mills, SLPS board member, spoke on putting action to the change you want to see by being the change yourself and by volunteering to help others with the same vision.
Students engaged in a Black History trivia game prior to having speakers present and gave recognition awards after the presentations. The event has been absolutely wonderful and highly educational. Students are very receptive to the speakers and are excited for the next weeks’ presentations.#SLPSMagnet
