Mack & Gaines Visit
For the concluding week of Black History Month, the speakers were Sandy Mack, Sr. and Dr. Samuel S. Gaines. Mr. Mack spoke on the importance of listening to & learning from elders. Dr. Samuel Gaines explained how far we’ve come from the segregation he experienced; having a hard time just getting books to now having an academy named after him with all the supplies right at hand. He encouraged students to take advantage of this privilege. Both men emphasized the importance of working hard to achieve your goals and to then give back & help others. The Civics students want to thank these men and all our guest speakers this month for helping to make history come alive for them. #SLPSMagnet
2nd Grade Doctors
Ms. Luna’s 2nd grade students were thrilled to be doctors for the day. She turned her classroom into operating rooms and students worked in teams to save their paper patient by completing hands-on tasks in math, phonics, reading and grammar. When each assignment was complete, they could transplant an organ into their patient. All these doctors were determined to save a live and now most want to be medical professionals in the future. #SLPSMagnet
